REST IN PEACE: NATE DOGG

Last night I got the tragic news that at 41, Nate Dogg had passed away. Quiet as kept, Nate had been sick for the past few years, and while it brings me peace to know he isn’t in pain any more it breaks my heart to know such an incredible piece to the hip hop puzzle is now missing. Alot of people are quick to call Nate a “Hook singer” but in reality his presence and signature blend of  his gospel roots with his street sensibilities is what made alot of your favorite songs HITS. Ask Fabolous, 50 cent, Ludacris, Snoop, Warren G, Dr. Dre to name a few. When you call on Nate, your song was given instant credibility. What he had was a gift. Not just in the sense of him singing, but the way he wrote and his impeccible delivery. And we can’t forget to mention the sense of humor Nate brought to a song! When else would it be okay to sing-say things like “Cause you gave me all your p***y And ya even licked my balls” out loud?

Being from the West Coast it’s no secret that music from Nate, Warren G, Snoop, Dre, Cube, ect stay’s in my personal playlist constantly. For me, Nate represented my teen years. He represented realness, fun, and good music. My life’s soundtrack. Probably not 1 day went by in the last 10 years I didn’t hear one of his songs. This is so devastating...We will miss you forever Nate.
